Dealing with Documents

PDF or .PDF Documents

"PDF" is an abbreviation for "Portable Document Format" (or something like that). Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view a PDF document. Click here (it will open in a new window) to download Acrobat Reader if you do not have it on your computer. You can download and use the program for free.

Opening a PDF document: Each link below will cause a new web browser window to open which will display the associated document.

Printing a PDF document: After opening a document (see above) you should be able to use any of the print options that you can see: Adobe Acrobat Reader print icon at top of the web browser viewing area, print icon in tool bar of your browser, or "File" then "Print..." from the menu line.

Downloading a PDF document: If your web browser supports it you can "right-click" on a link and choose the option to download the file to your computer.

Word or .DOC Documents

"Word" is a short-hand reference to Microsoft Word, the word-processing program that is sold either by itself or as part of a group of products called Microsoft Office. ".DOC" is the extension (suffix) on all "Word" documents.

There are many versions of Word that are "out there" today: Word 97, Word 2000, Word XP (AKA Word 2002), and Word 2003. Any of these versions will probably be able to open the Word documents that are on this site -- those of you with Word 97 may have the most trouble. You may be able to open Word documents with your word processor (Word Perfect, Open Office, etc.)

There is also a free "viewer" program available from Microsoft that will allow you view a Word document if your word processor won't open a Word document. Click here (it will open in a new window) to go to the page on Microsoft's site where you can download their Word 2003 Viewer.
