The T-34 Airworthiness Issues

On April 19, 1999, a T-34A flown by Sky Warriors near Atlanta, Georgia, lost a wing and crashed. On November 19, 2003, a Texas Air Aces T-34A lost a wing and crashed. On December 7, 2004, Texas Air Aces lost another T-34 when a wing came off.

This page contains documents and links related to these accidents and the fallout for the T-34 as a result.

Crashes

Horizontal Tail

  • Horizontal Tail -- The tail of the second TAA crash had fatigue cracks not detected by the dye penetrant inspection. Click here for more information on horizontal stabilizer issues.

  • New AD for Horizontal Tail. A new airworthiness directive that supersedes AD 62–24–01, which applies to all Raytheon Aircraft Company Beech Models 45 (YT–34), A45 (T–34A, B45), and D45 (T–34B) airplanes has been published. Click here for a plain text version of the AD, or click here for a PDF version of the pages from the Federal Register that contain the AD. (Ignore the text at the beginning and end of the PDF file which pertain to other issues.)
